Mike Harber

With a career shaped by diverse experiences, the president of Harber Appraisal brings a unique combination of skills and expertise to the company. Drafted during the Vietnam conflict, he was selected to develop a military quality audit program, implementing standards to inspect government food supplies for the troops. After receiving an honorable discharge, he transitioned into real estate, where appraising value became part of his daily routine. Alongside growing his real estate business, he acquired a body shop, which introduced him to the inner workings of the insurance industry.

After 25 years of managing and fighting for his customers, he sold both the body shop and real estate business, intending to retire. However, requests for help kept coming, leading to the formation of Harber Appraisal in 2012. The company has since grown exponentially, thanks to the commitment of its dedicated staff.

In his role, the president oversees every aspect of the company’s operations, from approving reports and evaluations to training staff and managing client trust accounts. His responsibility for the fairness and accuracy of every expert opinion reflects his deep commitment to the mission of Harber Appraisal.

Known for his empathy, honesty, and relentless work ethic, he often describes himself as a “dog with a bone.” His personal philosophy centers on fighting for clients against the “playground bully” — those insurers who attempt to take advantage of consumers.

With a passion for the outdoors, he enjoys fishing, photography, gardening, working with livestock, and spending time on his John Deere tractor. He also enjoys cooking, traveling, and weightlifting, finding fulfillment in hands-on work.

Over the years, several memorable cases have defined his career. One involved helping an elderly woman from Africa recover far more than her initial total loss claim after being mistreated by her insurer. Another proud moment was his role as an expert in a landmark Washington State Supreme Court case that upheld the concept of diminished value for consumers, a battle that spanned 14 years.

He holds a variety of credentials, including a Real Estate Broker’s license, vehicle dealer’s licenses, an Associate in Claims (AIC) designation, and Public and Independent Adjuster licenses in multiple states.

Looking to the future, his vision for Harber Appraisal is to train a team of compassionate experts who will carry on the company’s mission long after his tenure. His hope is to see Harber Appraisal’s influence and expertise expand nationwide, continuing to provide clients with the advocacy and fairness they deserve.
